The Golden Fleece

Team: Lynne, Rob, Neil, Chris, Shaz, Merca, Yvette and Amanda

Neil researched the area and devised his own ghost walk around the city incorporating many of the local landmarks, buildings and ghost tales.  This proved to be an excellent start to the evening.St Catherine’s RoomOn an earlier team walkabout Merca and Amanda both reported the presence of a man in this room stood in front of the wardrobe in the corner, Amanda sensed his name was possibly Peter.  There was also the presence of a lady stood in front of the bathroom door.  In front of the fireplace a black shape moved towards the centre of the room, this was sensed to be either a small child or a large black dog.

Debbie, Alyson, Lynne and Neil - also reported the feeling of a dog or cat walking past, 3 people in the group also smelled pipe tobacco.  Debbie’s brother came through and spelled his name and nickname and a moving cold spot was felt.

Peter, Hazel, Yvette and Amanda – Peter used the diving rods which indicated a presence near the bed on the left of the room, they did not react to the bed on the right.  Again the presence of a grumpy old man was felt in the wardrobe corner, he didn’t want to interact with us, felt he was calling us fools and that he didn’t want to “perform” for the team but he drew very near.  The lights went down to one bulb being lit from three.  A younger woman made herself known and Yvette became quite emotional and very anxious as if had her head in her hands, she was wearing an old fashioned bonnet.  Woman was in despair she didn’t know how she was going to get home.  Yvette felt like she couldn’t breathe.  A younger man some in the door and both Yvette and Amanda felt he was laid on the left bed watching, he was quite relaxed but again couldn’t be bothered to “perform”.  Cold spots were found around the table; Peter captured a couple of orbs on his photos.

Lady Pecketts Room

Debbie, Alyson, Lynne and Neil – picked up dark shadows about 5 feet tall on the wall between windows as Debbie felt someone touch her, then it faded, tried to recreate this and was unable to find explanation for it.

Peter, Hazel, Yvette and Amanda picked up a lady named Katherine with the Ouija; she was aged 64 and had no association with the pub. She was not married and lived in the 17th Century.  Amanda picked up that Katherine was looking for her daughter and didn’t realise she was dead; she was still waiting for her in spirit and wanted peace of mind.  Katherine was illiterate but knew basic letters and was able to answer questions, she liked us being there. Peter captured an orb on camera moving from right to left.  Katherine was a very nice lady but very sad, she liked our company.

Minster Room

Chris, Shaz, Caz, Stuart and Natalie – Shaz asked for the energy in the room to affect someone in the other room, Chris felt the energy move close whilst in the bathroom, nothing was picked up on the Ouija board but there was a light anomaly in the corner of the bath.  Merca, Rob, Neil and Andrea – heard a creaking near the bed, Rob heard noises in the living room.  Ouija picked up on a lady aged 58 who couldn’t read or write she had 6 children and died in 1637 from an illness.  Name T.  Merca felt a tall slim lady with curly hair which she wore up, she was a very nice lady.  A few tapping noises were heard in the bathroom, felt very cold.  Neil smelled Lavender.  Andrea got responses to questions on the meter; lights reacted with only middle ones lit.  Peter, Hazel, Yvette and Amanda – Peter had lots of movement with divining rods in front of the fireplace.  Felt a young girl stood by the fireplace, in her mid twenties who was very anxious.  Amanda felt a pain on the right hand side of her head.  Yvette sensed this was the same young lady who had made her tearful in St Catherine’s Room.  Yvette used the crystal to ask the girl questions, spirit indicated it was the same female who was with Amanda and she wanted help.  Possibly the daughter of Katherine?  The team felt stronger presence in the lounge area than the bedroom.  Ouija also bought young girl about 25ish but couldn’t answer questions as was confused.  In the bedroom Yvette heard a noise and saw lights at her feet on the bed, Hazel caught an orb on by Yvette’s feet on camera.  Diving rods detected action again near the fireplace.

The Shambles

Chris, Shaz, Caz, Stuart and Natalie – felt various cold spots in the room, Natalie had some movement with the diving rods.  A grey rugby ball shaped mist was seen along with blue specks near the fireplace.  There was a male who died there.  Picked up on a low level energy that could be a dog.  Shaz and Caz both developed a headache and nausea and had to leave the room.  The temperature varied between 19.4 and 17.4, and EMF readings were normal.Debbie, Alyson, Lynne and Neil – picked up 6 spirits including a male from 1843, he was visiting York for his sisters wedding in the church across the road, all 6 spirits were with the wedding party.  Had strong responses to questions.Merca, Rob, Neil and Andrea – Neil picked up a main stood in the corner of the room on the right hand side of the bed near the window and a man pacing the room.  Merca picked up the name Edward.  There were a couple of small taps and a couple of responses on the meter.  Merca sensed the presence of someone at the side of the bed near the window.  Ouija confirmed male spirit named Edward who died in 1557.  Rob asked his spirit guide to allow others to communicate which he did.  Edward came back and communicated.  He died aged 24 of consumption.Function RoomMerca picked up a gay man who had been killed by his girlfriend, accidentally, she was angry with him and hit him at the back of his head with a brick when she found out he was gay, Merca had also picked up this man in the bar area.  A coin appeared on the bar in the corner of the room, no explanation could be found for it, and no one had put it there.  A little activity was picked up using the planchette.  BarLots of activity with the Ouija board and a coin was found on the floor near the bar, this coin later moved to a different area in the bar.

Neil conducted a ghost walk for some of our guests and recalled his account of a previous visit he had made to York:-
Bedurn is haunted by three or four children that lived & died in the workhouse.
When the workhouse moved in 1855 bodies were discovered .
It is said that there were more bodies undiscovered there .

I was on a ghost walk with my wife and 2 1/2 year old son.
The guide was about to tell us about Bedurn when my son leaned out of his pram and pointed behind us saying,"there she is there" and pointing to the square of new houses. He kept repeating this. I couldn't see anything.

The guide went on to say that a little girl had been seen on many occasions in the square where my son had pointed.
The guide showed us a photo of someone on a previous walk had taken in the very spot my son had pointed too. In it there was a girl in morden dress standing smiling at the camera but behind her there was a small girl in ragged victorian clothes that you could see through.
I cannot say the photo was real as I didn't take it but my two year old had pointed to her before we new of the ghost's existance.
I have been there on many occasions and the atmosphere is strange
