RAF Holmpton
The team and guests arrived at RAF Holmpton on a dark, cold and wet night and looked forward to spending the night in the eerie silence of the Underground Bunker. We knew very little about this building. We asked that the staff member did not give us any information on spiritual activity and only a very brief history.
After our initial walk around we split into groups. In the first room we entered Merca immediately picked up on a man standing in the doorway of the room. When asked out a clear loud tap was heard by the entire group coming from the railing where he stood. We used our Ouija board (we were told later that we were the first group to do this) with an immediate response. The name Billy was spelled out then the name William and numbers 1973. Amanda and Merca said that there was also a small man in the room who appeared to be in his 40’s. Billy spelled out on the board that it was his boss. The glass then seemed to move to random letters “KOSSMH” at the time we thought nothing of this but later found that this could have been a code. The glass then moved very quickly to spell “Projection” again this meant nothing to us at the time. We later discovered that the room we were in was originally a projection room. This was not common knowledge and we were told that the word and date was accurate but not in the public domain. We were also told no other paranormal investigation had every picked up on this accurate piece of information which of course please us!
In the hospital room Peter continued with the dowsing rods which crossed a number of times to indicate spirit presence. The spirit of a nurse called “Christine” was picked up who used to frequent the cinema with her friend who worked in the canteen called “Susan”. They both claimed to work her in 1956 (information all given via the board). Our camcorders kept switching of without explanation in various areas of the building. The nurse told us that she did this as those areas were secret and the Official Secrets Act would not allow it. Our mediums on the spirit board confirmed that there were 68 active spirits who came in visitation. Christine was 48 and grounded there because she liked it. Her husband worked here “Peter” and he is still alive today. Another spirit called “Pat” aged 37, died in childbirth the baby survived and is now 34 years old is married now and “Pat” has two grandchildren. Although this could not be verified by fact we were later told that dates fitted and this story was a possibility as people did still work here into the 1970’s
Whilst the above was experienced in the hospital another group was in the cinema which has a history of activity. However we did not experience anything at all. On entering the corridor to rejoin the other group we past the toilets and heard one flush. Thinking another group member was in there we called out with no answer. No one was in the toilets. We decided to stay in there and hold a séance. Neil was scrying in one of the mirrors and Peter and Lynne saw his face overshadowed by a gaunt looking man, clean shaven (Neil has a beard). We heard the hot water boiler started to fill. At the time we ignored this and went to rejoin the others. Later we were told that there would be no reason for a toilet to flush and that the hot water tank should only fill if water had been run from a tap. All group members were accounted for at the time and there was no-one else in the building to run the taps.
While we were moving to the upper floor we all heard a cough coming from the other end of the corridor, like someone clearing their throat. All of our group were together. We called out for this to be done again. Nothing. However when we got to the upper corridor we heard it again. We could find no explanation for this and event though we asked it did not happen again.
We all went together into the room with the bomb in it. Many odd shaped orbs were photographed in here and on two occasions Lynne and Gary thought they saw someone walking past the door. We used the spirit board again and the following was spelled out GHOST (twice) ACE ENGLISH. Peter thought that ghost referred to an aircraft and asked if it was a pilot who flew spitfires. YES was the answer. Then GF48 we were told later that this could have been the partial identification number of an aircraft. The dates 1963 WORKED and 1967 DIED were spelled out. The name JOHN KEEGAN 1957 was spelled out twice. We have not yet verified this as someone who worked here. However of our guest Peter has a friend who actually worked in the Bunker and will try to find if this person did actually work here. We believe he had something to do with RADAR.
In the canteen area (which was not always used as this) our planchette was moving very quickly around the table but we could not pick anything of any significance. Neil believed there were many spirits in the room and Merca picked up 14 and that they were fed up of lots of people coming into the bunker trying to make contact and they were happy as they were. We asked for them to make a noise to indicate if they wanted us to leave. A load bang was heard on the hot water urn. Out of respect we decided to call it a night.
From a sceptic point of view it was very hard to offer explanations for some of the information that was picked up as it is not in the public domain but known to only some of the most knowledgeable staff. Also the coughing, toilet flushing and hot water tank filling were also very strange.
This is a building we will be most definitely visiting again to do a more in-depth investigation. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank James for his hospitality and we look forward to uncovering some more of the mysteries surrounding the employees who work in this secret underground bunker. If you worked here, visited here or have a report of your own you would like to add please send it in to us and we may post it on our site. Alternatively you can visit our forum to enter our discussions about this investigation.
As we descended the steps to the entrance tunnel we were not disappointed as a clear disembodied whistle was heard by us all. No-one was below ground with us and all of the group were accounted for.
